The Sikh Centennial Gala

The Sikh Centennial Gala commenced in 1997 to commemorate the centenary of Sikh settlement in Canada. Since then it has been privileged to be at the forefront of promoting Sikh heritage and culture by celebrating the participation and excellence achieved by Sikhs and non-Sikhs in all aspects of civil, social and cultural life.

The Sikh Centennial Annual Gala is the highlight of the year for the Sikh diaspora in Canada. Over the past twelve years, we have hosted the Prime Minister of Canada, leaders of industry, distinguished entrepreneurs and accomplished artists, in what has become the most prestigious South Asian event in North America.

Sikh Foundation Lecture Series

The Sikh Foundation of Canada Lecture Series aims to broaden awareness of Sikh heritage and culture through academic lectures. A wide array of topics and books comprise the content of the lecture series, which will be presented by eminent historians, scholars and curators. We hope you’ll join us on this journey to explore aspects of Sikh literature, art, culture and history.

We are pleased to announce the first installment of the Sikh Foundation of Canada Lecture Series: France and the French in the Kingdom of Maharaja Ranjit Singh by Dr. Jean-Marie Lafont.

In the early 19th century, several Frenchmen – soldiers, scholars and travellers – made their way to the Punjab kingdom of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. This lecture explores the role of European officers in the service of the Maharaja, their impact on the history of the Punjab kingdom, and their effect on the foreign policies of Britain and France.

Dr. Lafont is a distinguished scholar of classical studies, archeology and history from the University of Lyon and the University of Paris, Sorbonne. He has published over a dozen books on the history of the French in India and curated several cultural exhibitions about Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
